Ways of Bidding
In Person
On sale day all potential buyers must be registered with some means of identification and proof of residence.
A large numbered card matched to the registration details is issued.
Successful bidders must ensure their number is clearly seen by the Auctioneer at the fall of the hammer and that their number is called out as the successful buyer.
If in doubt as to the hammer price or buyer, attract the attention of the Auctioneer or a member of staff immediately.
When finished bidding return the card to reception and settle the account.
First Time Bidders
We understand in some cases inexperienced bidders may be nervous within the Auction room on sale day. Please don't hesitate to ask for some friendly advice or help from a member of staff. Despite the myths, scratched noses, pulled ears, winks or raised eyebrows are not part of the bidding process. A clear bid with your numbered card raised is sufficient and normal practice.
Absentee Bids
If you are unable to attend the Auction you may complete a bidding form in the Auction Room on view day and hand it to a saleroom representative. This is a very popular method of bidding at Auction. The staff will assist in giving guide prices or in completing the bid form if you wish. Bids will be executed as cheaply as permitted by other bids or reserves.
Faxed bids are accepted at the sender's risk and should be confirmed by telephone.
Fax No. 01287 625353 - Download a bid form.
Absentee bidders should telephone the Auctioneers on 01287 622366 between 2.30 - 4.30pm on sale day to check if they have been successful.
Clearance
Purchasers may collect their goods at the end of the sale up until 4.30pm or the Auctioneers can arrange delivery with an independent removal contractor for clients who are unable to collect their purchases and live locally - further information from the Auctioneers.
Paying
The following methods of payment are accepted:
- Cash
- Debit Card - our most popular method of payment - no surcharge!
- Credit Card - Subject to a surcharge of 2.25% to cover the Card Company's administration charge
